Has there ever been a notable miltary leader from spain similar to oliver cromwell?

There was Hern�n Cort�s de Monroy y Pizarro (known in America as Hernando Cortez), but he didn't manage to murder as many people as Cromwell. Oliver Cromwell was a military dictator who had the King hanged for overriding parliament and then proceeded to do the same himself. He is the only man in British history to be dug up and hanged posthumously. His reign of terror resulted in the deaths of around 25% of the population of the British Isles. Numbers were lower in Cromwell's day, but in terms of percentages, his bloody reign was worse than Hitler, worse than Stalin and worse than Pol Pot. Why the British still name streets after this evil man is beyond me.
